Lol my Senegal parrot does the exact same thing. I've just accepted that the bird runs the house now. I'm just the food delivery service.

I know pellets are the gold standard but I think the anti-seed narrative has gone way too far. My lineolated parakeet gets a balanced diet of pellets, fresh food, AND a small amount of quality seed mix. They're in perfect health. Seeds in moderation are FINE. Change my mind.

Don't worry, this is super common with umbrella cockatoo. You're doing great!

So I had this exact problem about a year ago. Let me share what I learned. The key thing is switching from seed to Harrison's pellets gradually over 2 weeks. A lot of people also recommend reading "The Parrot Problem Solver" by Barbara Heidenreich. I remember when my parrotlet went through this phase. I was so worried but my vet said it's actually really common.

I went through this exact thing with my Indian ringneck Skittles! It lasted about almost six weeks and then resolved on its own. Hang in there.

There's a great bird supply store in Richmond Hill that carries exactly what you need. I go there all the time.

My Quaker parrot did this too! Turned out it was because of molting — they get uncomfortable and cranky. Once I addressed that, everything went back to normal.

Been thinking about adopting a rescue instead of buying from a breeder. Any experiences with rescue birds in Ontario? What should I expect in terms of behavioral challenges? Which rescue organizations do you recommend?

The longer days have triggered full hormonal mode in my green-cheek conure. Pistachio is being territorial, regurgitating on everything, and screaming more than usual. I know it passes but MAN it's exhausting. What are your strategies for managing hormonal season?

I respectfully disagree. I think it depends heavily on the individual bird. My Raja is the total opposite.
