I've narrowed my search down to either a lineolated parakeet or a lineolated parakeet. I live in Whitby, work from home, and have about 3-4 hours of out-of-cage interaction time daily. Which would you recommend and why?

So I had this exact problem about a year ago. Let me share what I learned. The key thing is putting the food bowl higher up — birds feel safer eating at height. A lot of people also recommend giving warm food (like a warmed mash) on cold Toronto mornings. My avian vet in Vaughan also suggested checking for jealousy of a new person, pet, or even object in the home which can sometimes be an underlying factor. Good luck — feel free to DM me if you have questions!

Been thinking about this thread all week. I've tried a few of the suggestions and using a stainless steel cage with proper bar spacing for the species was the game changer for us.

Did this start suddenly or was it gradual? When my lineolated parakeet did this it turned out to be jealousy of a new person, pet, or even object in the home.

I switched to Goldenfeast last year and haven't looked back. My lineolated parakeet's feathers have never looked better.

One thing that really helped was playing calming bird sounds from YouTube during the day. Give it a try — can't hurt!

What worked for me was spending at minimum 2 hours of supervised out-of-cage time daily. Took about a week but my lineolated parakeet responded really well to it.
