Hello! Been lurking on this forum for a bit and finally decided to make an account and participate. I've had my canary Sunny for about 3 years now. Always nice to connect with other bird people in the GTA — most people I know think I'm crazy for having a bird lol. Excited to be here!

The longer days have triggered full hormonal mode in my lineolated parakeet. Coco is being territorial, regurgitating on everything, and screaming more than usual. I know it passes but MAN it's exhausting. What are your strategies for managing hormonal season?

Have you tried spending at minimum 2 hours of supervised out-of-cage time daily? That's what solved this issue for us. Game changer honestly.

Six months in and I can't imagine life without Raja. When I first got them they were hand-shy and wouldn't make eye contact. Now they greet me every morning with a head bob, eat from my hand, and even started mimicking my laugh. To everyone in the early bonding phase: it gets SO much better.

Oh my bird did this for about over a month and I tried everything. Honestly, time was the biggest factor. They just grew out of it.

I've had birds for 15 years and I've seen this many times. In my experience it usually comes down to stress from loud noises like construction.

If you're near Liberty Village, PetSmart on Kennedy Rd actually has a decent bird section. Better than most locations.

My umbrella cockatoo did this too! Turned out it was because of boredom from lack of enrichment and mental stimulation. Once I addressed that, everything went back to normal.
