Second vote for BST. They boarded my caique last summer and I could tell Lucky was well cared for when I picked them up. Total peace of mind.

I actually disagree with this. In my experience with my Pionus, the opposite was true. But I know every bird is different.

I've had birds for 15 years and I've seen this many times. In my experience it usually comes down to territorial behavior — especially common during breeding season.

Okay but counterpoint — what about birds that are the complete opposite? My green cheek conure breaks every rule lol.

Do you have other pets in the home? My umbrella cockatoo started acting differently when we got a cat.

Six months in and I can't imagine life without Tiki. When I first got them they were hand-shy and wouldn't make eye contact. Now they greet me every morning with a head bob, eat from my hand, and even started mimicking my laugh. To everyone in the early bonding phase: it gets SO much better.

My vet in High Park suggested switching from seed to Harrison's pellets gradually over 2 weeks and I noticed a change within the first week. Highly recommend.

YES! This is exactly what I needed to read today. My pionus and I have been going through the same thing!

I've tried a bunch of brands and Goldenfeast is hands down the best value. My Paco devours it.

Have you noticed any other changes? When my zebra finch did this they were also regurgitating on toys or hands.

My Oliver went through a phase like this around 4 years. I was terrified but it passed. Birds are weird sometimes lol.

Hello from Mississauga!👋 Introduce Yourself

I went through this exact thing with my sun conure Sunny! It lasted about a few days and then resolved on its own. Hang in there.

I'd suggest trying stuffing paper towel rolls with treats for foraging. My avian vet recommended it and it made a huge difference.

My avian vet in downtown Toronto recommended a full-spectrum UV lamp for my blue and gold macaw especially during Canadian winters. There are so many options though — Arcadia, Zoo Med, FeatherBrite. Which one do you use and are you happy with it? Is there actually a noticeable difference in your bird's behavior?

I've tried a bunch of brands and Goldenfeast is hands down the best value. My Raja devours it.

Okay but counterpoint — what about birds that are the complete opposite? My lovebird breaks every rule lol.

I used to think the same thing until my parrotlet proved me wrong. Now I'm firmly in the other camp.

Dealt with this for months. What finally worked was changing the type of water dish and just being really patient. They come around eventually.

Birds are basically tiny dinosaurs with attitude. My Lucky has me completely trained at this point 😂

Hey all! I've kept birds for over 10 years — started with budgies and currently have a sun conure named Lucky. I live in the Beaches and found this forum through the BST website. Seems like a great community with solid advice. Happy to help answer questions and share what I've learned over the years!
